Utah: June 19, 2003

A continuation of the cross-country adventure I shared with Ben in the summer of 2003....

Day 12--Thursday, June 19, 2003

Finally, we crossed over the state line into Utah.  Immediately the landscape changed from mountains and pines to desert and huge red cliffs.  We also immediately decided that we like Utah better than Colorado.  Colorado is just so commercialized.  It's like a whole tourist state.  Utah is so much more rugged and real.

We took a scenic highway, which apparently had no speed limit, with tons of gorgeous views to the cliffs of Moab.

We checked in to Motel 6, which my dad paid for as one of our "summer gifts."  Since we didn't have to pay for a campsite tonight, we treated ourselves to a good dinner at the Moab Microbrewery, where we each ate a huge burger, satisfying the meat craving that has been growing for days.  Back at the hotel, we returned some of the many phone messages that have been piling up, watched a little TV, and reveled at our leisurely and comfortable evening!
