Day 20--Friday, June 27, 2003
With one thing and another, I really missed most of the day. When I was finally fully conscious and in a passably good mood, we had entered the Redwood National and State Parks. Our campground was at Jedidiah Smith State Campground
I would say the weirdest thing about this campsite was that they take reservations but do not reserve specific campsites. When we got there, the guy at the information booth gave us a list of open campsites and then told us to drive around, look at one, pick one, and then come back and tell him which one it was, since "three other groups are out there looking right now too." Odd. We selected a very pretty and roomy site, 30, and settled in for the evening.
After we set up the tent, Ben wanted to go swimming. He changed into his suit, and we went down to the rocky beach on the banks of the Smith River. He never did actually go in, but we did walk for a while and explore along the shoreline.
Since it was so hot out (over 100 degrees!) we made ourselves some cool pasta salad and pink lemonade for the evening and spent our time labeling the pictures on our new cd. This took until dark, when we crawled into our tent. In spite of the fact that I had napped so much during the day, I was surprisingly still very tired.
